Blue Knights Can’t Overcome Slow Start
Rio Grande downs Urbana, 96-83
URBANA, Ohio (February 2, 2008) – The Blue Knights dropped an American Mideast Conference contest, 96-83, to visiting Rio Grande here at the Grimes Center Gymnasium Saturday. It was the big Redmen that wreaked havoc, as Brandon Ivery (24 points) and Will Norwell (21 points) shot 17-of-22 from the field and combined for 45 of Rio’s 96 points.

For the second time this season Urbana had five players score in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to combat the Redmen who shot 61.4 percent from the field. Junior Charles Jefferson and senior Allen Drake each poured in 16 points, while senior Harold Haynes had 15, senior Julian Bernard had 12 and junior Dorian Hoover rounded out the Blue Knight double figure scorers with 11 points, all of which came in the first half. Drake also had a career-high four steals.

Rio Grande took a 7-6 lead three minutes into the first half and never looked back, leading by as many as 17 with 5:39 left to play in the game.

Both teams prospered in the paint with 62 of Rio’s points coming in the lane and 50 for the Blue Knights. Rio out rebounded Urbana, 38-28.

The Blue Knights are back at home on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in an AMC rematch against Wilberforce University at the Grimes Center. Tip off is slated for 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs won the first game, 98-90, in Wilberforce, Ohio.
