Second Half Explosion Not Enough;
Bears Down Blue Knights 74-66

By Gene Clemons
URBANA, Ohio (Jan. 29, 2008)--An 18 point second half performance from junior center Dorian Hoover was not enough to tame the Bears as Urbana University’s men’s basketball team fell Tuesday at home to Shawnee State 74-66.

The Blue Knight offense spent the first half hot from the three point line but cold from everywhere else. They shot 57.1 percent from the three, but only 39.1 percent from the field and went into halftime down 37-26.

The beginning of the second half started where the first half left off and the 11 point Shawnee State lead ballooned to over twenty halfway through the second half. But, behind stifling defense and Hoover’s 18 points, which included going 4-4 from behind the arc, the Blue Knights were able to cut the lead down to six with a minute and a half remaining.

Unfortunately, that was as close as Urbana would get and Shawnee State escaped with an eight point win.

The Blue Knights had a balanced scoring attack. Hoover’s 18 points was accompanied by six rebound and three blocks. Junior David Brown continued his solid play scoring 14 points dishing three assist and stealing the ball twice. Senior Allen Drake pitched in on both sides of the ball with seven points and eight rebounds.

Urbana will continue their four game home stand on Thursday when the welcome in Central State. Tip-off is set for 7:30 in the evening.
