Jackson Hits Game-Winner and Blocks Final TU Shot
Blue Knights win 72-70 over Tiffin
URBANA, Ohio (January 17, 2008) – Freshman Robert Jackson came up big in Urbana University’s 72-70 non-conference win over visiting Tiffin University Thursday night at the Grimes Center Gymnasium. Jackson hit the game-winning shot with 10 seconds left in the game, but more importantly blocked Alex Strok’s shot at the buzzer to preserve the Blue Knight victory.

Jackson finished the contest with 11 points, seven rebounds and that big blocked shot. He was one of four Urbana players to score in double figures. Senior Allen Drake paced the Blue Knight attack with 16 points and seven rebounds. Senior Harold Haynes and junior Charles Jefferson each popped in 10 points. Haynes also had a game-high five assists. Brian Scott led Tiffin (2-17) in scoring with 17 points.

Urbana (3-13) won the battle of the boards, out rebounding Tiffin, 30-28. The Blue Knights outscored the Dragons, 48-22 in the paint.

The Blue Knights led the entire first half and closed out with a buzzer-beating lay up by junior David Brown to give Urbana a 35-30 edge after the first 20 minutes. The second period was neck-and-neck with 11 lead changes and seven ties. Tiffin, which hit its first 14 consecutive free throws, missed six in the final four minutes of the game. Drake tied the score at 70-all after a lay up on the dish from Haynes. Tiffin missed two free throws with 25 seconds to play and Brown snagged the defensive rebound on the second miss. Haynes took a three-point attempt with 13 seconds to play and it rimmed out. Then came Jackson’s heroics. The freshman grabbed the offensive board and went up strong for the game-winning bucket. The followed it with the game-winning blocked shot.

The Blue Knights host Ohio Dominican in an American Mideast Conference game this Saturday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m., following the women’s game vs. the Panthers which has a 2 p.m. tip-off.
