Blue Knight Golf Scramble a Driving Success
URBANA , Ohio (July 20, 2007) – The Urbana University’s annual golf scramble to benefit the women’s and men’s golf team took place at Woodland Golf Club in Cable, Ohio. The format was a four-person, best-ball scramble, with the funds being raised contributing to both the women’s and men’s golf team, and a portion going to the general athletic fund for Urbana University’s Department of Athletics.

“We had several compliments on how smoothly the scramble went,” said Women’s Head Golf Coach Jacque Howell. “For as many teams as we had the scramble was run efficiently. Many said it was the most smoothly run golf scramble they have ever played in. The day was perfect. The food was great and there was plenty of it.”

The event featured prizes for the top three teams, a longest drive and closest to the pin for both women and men, and even a chance to win a two-year lease on a Ford Escape with a hole-in-one. Throughout the day, teams making the turn from the eighteenth hole to the first, could stop by the clubhouse and snack on hot dogs and sausages, as well as pick up complimentary beverages.

The main sponsors for the events were Barnes and Noble Booksellers, who were an “eagle” level sponsor, and Bottom Line Ink of Toledo, who was a “birdie” level sponsor.

“It was just a gorgeous day, and it turned into a great event,” Knick explained. “With the help from the community, sponsors, and the university itself, it was the largest turnout we have ever had. Our golf teams and athletic department would like to personally thank all of the parties involved, and, hopefully, here’s to a bigger and better event next year.”

“It helped tremendously to have help from University staff,” added Howell. “The coaches in the athletic department were all helpful. It was great to have our Urbana men’s and women’s golf teams on hand to help as well. We want to thank everyone for all of their support to make this a successful event and fundraiser for the Blue Knight golf teams.”

The winning team was Frank Doyle, Jonathan Doyle, Clay Wonnel and Steve Kraiebel. The runners-up, coached by Urbana University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Paul Bryant, were Jenness Sigman, Mark Sigman, Sterling Conley and Jerry Conley. The longest drive contest winners were Clay Wonnel (men’s) and Nicole Schoener (women’s). The closest to the pin winner was Theresa Check.
