Brisco and Lewis Headline MSFA Defense
Urbana DEs named first team; nine Blue Knights earn all-MSFA
URBANA, Ohio (November 16, 2007) – Urbana University junior Shawn Lewis (pictured left) and redshirt freshman Travis Brisco, both linemen for the Blue Knights, were named to the all-MSFA Mideast Division First Team Defense.
Lewis and Brisco wreaked havoc on opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks. The duo combined for 24 of Urbana’s league-leading 44 sacks this season. Brisco was No. 1 in the MSFA with 13 sacks and Lewis was second with 11. Lewis, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound native of Aberdeen, Md., led the league in forced fumbles with five. He totaled an unheard of 84 tackles for a lineman. Brisco, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound native of Columbus, Ohio, broke a single-game record for sacks when he tallied four against Malone College (Oct. 20). His 13 sacks tied a Blue Knight single-season record.
Linemate Kyle Lockett, a senior from Pleasantville, N.J., was named to the second team all-MSFA Defense. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive tackle was sixth in the MSFA in sacks and led the Blue Knights with three blocked kicks. Senior defensive back Rasul Basit was also named to the second team defense. Basit, a 5-foot-10, 210-pound native of Cleveland, had 59 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and two passes defended.
Juniors Kirk Hannah and Thomas Rogan were named to the all-MSFA Mideast Division Second Team Offense. Hannah, a 6-0, 215-pound running back from Miami, Fla., broke Urbana's single game record for rushing yards with his 224 yards, which is also the second best rushing performance this season in the MSFA, against Marian College (Nov. 10). Hannah had two rushing touchdowns against Marian, giving him 10 on the season, breaking the Blue Knight record for single season rushing TDs. Hannah also broke his own single season record for rushing yards with 1,112, surpassing his own mark of 1,063 which he set last year. He is the first Urbana player to ever rush for 1,000 yards and has now done it in back-to-back seasons. Hannah has rushed for 2,201 yards in his career. A big reason for Hannah’s success is Rogan, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman from Urbana, Ohio, who is one the strongest players on Urbana’s line. He opens up holes and is a primary reason as to why Hannah averaged 101.1 yards per game. He consistently grades out with a “winning” performance.
Earning Honorable Mention all-MSFA accolades for the Blue Knights were: senior running back Luther Henderson, sophomore linebacker Chad Kinkead and senior linebacker Kevin Weber.
Henderson , from Columbus, Ohio, rushed for 23 touchdowns in his career, which is second all-time behind Grady Parks’ 24 in the Blue Knight record books. Weber, a native of Orchard Park, N.Y., led the Blue Knights with 103 tackles. He closed out his career with 332 tackles. Kinkead, of Warren, Ohio, was second on the team with 99 tackles.
