Records Tumble in Urbana’s Win Over Marian
Blue Knights roll in 42-14 win; Four records broken on senior day
URBANA, Ohio (Nov. 10, 2007) – Urbana University sent its seniors out in style with a 42-14 win over Marian College (1-9, 1-6 MSFA) Saturday in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast Division contest. It’s only fitting the winningest senior class in Urbana history, goes out with a victory. In the final game of the season, the Blue Knights (6-5, 3-4 MSFA) churned out 517 yards of total offense to Marian’s 216, and saw four records broken in the process.

Two seniors broke career records. Wide receiver Barry Quinn hauled in a six-yard pass from CJ Westler to give Urbana a 21-7 lead with 6:49 to play in the game. The touchdown reception was the 17 th of his career, breaking the record of 16 held by Howard Glover (98-01). Quarterback Ryan Gehlert, who suffered an injury and did not play the last two games, needed just 25 yards passing to break the career passing yardage mark of 4,950 set by Frank Carrico (94-98). Gehlert completed two passes for 26 yards to close out his career with 4,951 career passing yards.

Junior Kirk Hannah ran for a Blue Knight single-game record 224 yards and two touchdowns, helping Urbana to a season-high 349 rushing yards. Hannah also broke a single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 10. His 224 yards pushed him to 1,112 rushing yards on the season, breaking his own record in which he set last year with 1,063 rushing yards in a season -- the first Urbana back to ever go over 1,000 yards. Hannah got his scoring in early, running for a two-yard score with 10:26 left in the first quarter and again on a six-yard run with 1:56 remaining in the first period, to put the Blue Knights up 14-0.

Senior Luther Henderson also rushed for two scores, giving him 23 in his career, which is second all-time behind Grady Parks’ 24 in the Blue Knight record books. He had a two-yard plunge with 4:16 remaining in the first half to give Urbana a commanding 28-7 lead. He also scored the final TD of the game on a one-yard run with 7:06 left in the contest. Senior Alan Hess drilled the extra point to give Urbana its final margin of victory, 42-14.

Freshman Jacob Harfman also got in on the scoring. As time expired in the first half, the Blue Knights attempted a 40-yard field goal, but the snap went through the holders hands and was caught by Harfman, who turned it into an 18-yard touchdown run to give the Blue Knights a commanding 35-7 lead at the half.

Marian scored on two big plays. The Knights cut the lead to 14-7 on a JaQuan Patilla 48-yard play action pass from Eldrin Jones. The other was a 52-yard catch-and-run from Clay Coomer to Jeff Fabris early in the third stanza, making the score, 35-14.

Westler completed 14 passes on 27 attempts for 142 yards and a TD. Senior Larry McCartney (59 yards receiving) and freshman David Shavers (34 yards receiving) caught four passes each to lead Urbana.

The Blue Knights, second in the MSFA in rush defense, allowed just 65 rushing yards and accounted for eight sacks.
