Blue Knights Suffer 42-16 Decision at No. 5 USF
FT. WAYNE, Ind. (October 27, 2007) – Junior Kirk Hannah ran for 100 yards and scored his eighth touchdown on the ground this season, tying a Blue Knight record for single-season rushing TDs Saturday at Donley Field. He tied senior Luther Hendeson’s mark, which Henderson set in 2004 and 2005. Henderson also rushed for a score vs. the No. 5 Saint Francis Cougars, bringing him closer to the career TD rushing record, now needing five to break the record. The outcome vs. St. Francis in a Mid-States Football Association battle was not in favor of Urbana (5-4, 2-3 MSFA) as they fell, 42-16.

USF (7-1, 4-1 MSFA) jumped to a 28-9 lead in the first half, with Urbana’s only scoring coming on a Jacob Harfman, 29-yard field goal and Henderson’s one-yard TD run to cut the lead to 21-9 with 9:59 to play until half.

Urbana’s Jerrod Slater intercepted a Jeff Wedding pass on USF’s ensuing drive to give the Blue Knights a chance to cut the lead before the half. Vincent Price dashed those chances, intercepting a CJ Westler pass and running it back 33 yards for the six points.

The Cougars scored on their first possession of the second half to go up, 35-9. Hannah scored his record-tying touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 35-16. USF closed out the game, scoring at the 4:44 mark to put the game away, 42-16.

USF had 571 total yards, including 350 passing yards, to Urbana’s 283 total yards. Westler completed 15-of-37 passes for 162 yards and three interceptions. USF’s Wedding was 24-of-42 for 332 yards, three TDs and three interceptions. Senior Larry McCartney was Urbana’s leading receiver, hauling in five passes for 65 yards. Senior Barry Quinn had four catches for 39 yards.

Senior Kevin Weber led the defense with 12 tackles and an interception. Chad Kinkead added 11 tackles and a sack for a nine-yard loss. Justin McClendon had an interception and returned it 24 yards at the close of the first half. USF was driving into Blue Knight territory when McClendon intercepted the pass at the Urbana five-yard line.

Urbana takes on undefeated and 3rd ranked Ohio Dominican this Saturday at Ellis Field with a noon kickoff.
