2008 Blue Knight Football Schedule Released
URBANA, Ohio (March 10, 2008) – The 2008 Urbana University football scheduled was announced by Blue Knight Director of Athletics Doug Young today. The schedule features five home games and six on the road.
The Blue Knights open the season with back-to-back home games at Ellis Field. The 2008 campaign kicks off on August 30 at noon against the NCAA D-II Findlay Oilers, the first meeting between the two football squads since 1995. The following week, Blue Knight Head Coach Tim Place and his Urbana squad will host West Virginia Tech, also in a noon kickoff at Ellis Field. Last year the Blue Knights handed the Golden Bears a 27-21 loss in double overtime in the 2007 season opener in Montgomery, W.Va.
Urbana will have September 13 as bye week and then play its first road game of 2008 in Greeneville, Tenn. against Tusculum College, the first ever meeting between the two football programs. The Blue Knights will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule on September 27 with a road game in Chicago against St. Francis, Ill.
2008 marks the final season that the Blue Knights will participate in the Mid-States Football Association, after Urbana chose to become NCAA D-II in 2007. The Blue Knight schedule remains one of the toughest in the country, with five of the MSFA teams they play ranked in the NAIA Top 25 poll last season (all were in top15 at time Urbana played them). The Blue Knights commence league play against Taylor University on October 4 at 2 p.m. in Urbana’s homecoming game.
Urbana also hosts St. Xavier, Ill. (Oct. 18), a team that qualified for the NAIA quarterfinals last year; and St. Francis, Ind. (Nov. 1), a squad that qualified for the NAIA semifinals.
Urbana plays at Walsh, Ohio (Oct. 11), Malone, Ohio (Oct. 25), Ohio Dominican (Nov. 8) and close the regular season against second-year program Marian, Ind. (Nov. 15). The ODU Panthers also advanced to the NAIA quarterfinals, while Walsh and Malone were nationally ranked.
