Honors Keep Coming for Urbana's Lewis
Junior defensive end named VSN all-American
Grand Island , Neb – The Victory Sports Network has released the 2007 NAIA Football All-American Teams. Urbana University junior defensive end Shawn Lewis ( Aberdeen, Md.), who had a stellar season, was recognized by VSN as a second team defensive all-American.

In just two seasons, Lewis has registered 21.0 career sacks, second behind Urbana career record holder and NAIA all-American Vince Scalmato who had 22.0. Lewis had 11 sacks this season, which was second in the MSFA and tied for 14th in the NAIA, behind teammate redshirt freshman Travis Brisco. The duo helped lead Urbana to an MSFA-best 44 sacks for a loss of 293 yards (3rd in the NAIA). Lewis registered a team-high 23 TFL, tied for the most in the MSFA, and led the MSFA in forced fumbles with five, which was second in NAIA during the regular season. He lead Urbana's rush defense which allowed just 95.8 rushing yards a game, second best in the MSFA and 13th in the NAIA).

This marks the sixth season for the VSN awards. The biggest honors on this year’s team were split among three different schools as VSN selected offensive, defensive and coach of the year awards. Chad Cavender was named VSN’s Offensive NAIA Player of the Year while Owen Koeppen of Carroll College garnered VSN’s Defensive NAIA Player of the Year.

With help of coaches from across the NAIA, VSN has now completed their second year of incorporating NAIA coaches into the selection process. Previously teams were selected by VSN only. Now a committee of NAIA Coaches votes on the teams compiled by VSN.
