Urbana Grad Named Blue Knight Head Football Coach (April 25, 2008) – David Taynor, a 1999 graduate of Urbana University, was named Blue Knight head football coach today. He becomes the ninth head football coach at Urbana.
"Coach Taynor was the player's choice from the moment they met him. His background as an outstanding student-athlete at Urbana University made him the ideal fit for our program,” said Urbana University Director of Athletics Doug Young. “Dave knows what it takes to be successful at the NCAA Division II level. Roberts to Take Over Urbana Men's Soccer Program URBANA, Ohio (April 25, 2008) – Nick Roberts, a native of Manchester, England, and a 1994 graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., was named Urbana University ’s new head men’s soccer coach. He has experience playing and coaching soccer at a multitude of levels.
" I am very happy to become the new men's coach at Urbana. I know the area and the school well and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead,” said Roberts. "It's been a fairly quick appointment and thanks to Doug Young and the University I have managed to meet the players and lay the ground work for my expectations to prepare the players for preseason training camp in August." Blue Knight Softball Team Honored
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 22, 2007) – The Urbana University 2007 softball team was honored at halftime of the Blue Knights' 45-13 win over St. Francis (IL) Saturday at Ellis Field. The squad won the 2007 American Mideast Conference regular season championship. Head Coach Nikki Pluger was named AMC and Region IX Coach of the Year.
Urbana Accepted for NCAA D-II Exploratory Status Blue Knights Take First Step Towards NCAA Division II Membership Complete Release in pdf format URBANA, Ohio (July 19, 2007) – Urbana University is in the early stages of shifting its affiliation from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Urbana Director of Athletics Doug Young received a letter from NCAA officials to inform him that the University has been accepted into the exploratory phase of the process to achieve NCAA Division II status. Blue Knights Garner NAIA Academic Honors Women’s basketball and women’s golf teams recognized URBANA , Ohio – The Urbana University women’s basketball and women’s golf teams were honored by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as 2006-07 NAIA Scholar Teams. The criterion for earning the award is at least a 3.0 team grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during 2006-07 academic year. [more]
Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Earn Academic Award
URBANA, Oh (Feb. 5, 2007)-- The Blue Knight men's and women's soccer teams both earned the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Athletics Association) Academic Team Award by having a team average GPA of a 3.0 or higher. This is the fourth year in a row for the women and the third out of four years for the men.
