Hudnall Breaks Another Blue Knight Record
Urbana junior is 9-1 on the season
URBANA, Ohio (April 28, 2008) – The Blue Knight baseball team experienced the highs and lows of the game Monday in an American Mideast Conference doubleheader against Cedarville (20-28, 8-18 AMC). Urbana (25-17, 14-8 AMC) claimed game one, 3-1, and saw a record fall in the process, but squandered a four-run lead to fall, 6-5 in the nightcap.
Junior pitcher Jaeson Hudnall was the story of the first game, striking out six and earning his ninth win on the year, which breaks the school record for victories in a season. He breaks current pitching coach Bret Miller’s mark of eight set in 2000. Hudnall has already broken the season strikeout mark and has now bumped his league-leading Ks total up to 82. Hudnall got out of a jam by striking out the last batter in the sixth inning when Cedarville had loaded up the bases. He got run support from junior Russ Chambers who went 2-for-3 with an RBI double; sophomore Andrew Harrell’s RBI triple; and senior Tommy Bowlen’s RBI single.
In game two, sophomore Cody Lawhorn pitched six innings gave the Blue Knight a commanding 5-1 going into the seventh. The Yellow Jackets took advantage of five walks and smacked a double to tie the game up. A hit and run gave Cedarville the lead, and Urbana couldn’t muster the hits in the seventh, although there were fireworks during the game. Sophomore Kris Nealeigh went 2-for-4 and crushed out his second homerun of the season for Urbana. Senior John Lindquist was also 2-for-4 with a double. Junior Steve Froese also doubled.
Urbana plays at Ohio Dominican in an AMC doubleheader this Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m.
