Blue Knights Move up in Region IX Rankings
URBANA, Ohio (April 22, 2008) – The Blue Knight baseball team has had a solid April, going 12-3 so far this month. Urbana University (22-13, 12-5 American Mideast Conference) was ranked third in the most recent NAIA 2008 Baseball Region IX ranking, released April 21. The Blue Knights are also currently third in the AMC Baseball Standings. League-leading Malone College (31-9, 19-3 AMC) is first in this week’s Region IX ranking, followed by Ohio Dominican University (25-11, 12-3 AMC). The Blue Knights split with Malone on March 28, losing game one, 4-3, in 10 innings, and winning the second game, 5-3. Urbana plays the Panthers in AMC doubleheaders on May 3 and again on May 4 at Blue Knight Field to close out the regular season.
Urbana made its first appearance in the Region rankings in week four (March 31) when it was rated the sixth best team in Region IX. In week five (April 7), the Blue Knights were bumped up to fifth. They were ranked fourth last week in rating No. 6.
Urbana plays at Rio Grande this Wednesday, April 23 at 1 p.m. in an AMC doubleheader. The Blue Knights were victorious in the first meeting, winning both games in shutouts, 9-0 and 8-0.
