Bezak and Heck Power Urbana to Game 1 Win
Blue Knights split with MVNU
MT. VERNON, Ohio (March 29, 2008) – Mike Bezak and Michael Heck combined for seven hits with 4 RBI in the Blue Knights’ 8-1 route of Mount Vernon Nazarene, but Urbana (10-10, 3-3 AMC) had no answer for the Cougars in game two which saw the Blue Knights muster just three hits in a 6-2 loss to MVNU (11-8, 3-1 AMC) in an American Mideast Conference doubleheader.
The Blue Knights rolled in game one, belting out 14 hits. Urbana owned a commanding 4-1 lead after three innings and put the game out of reach with two runs in the fifth and sixth. Heck went 4-for-4 with two doubles, while Bezak was 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI. Matt Netherly also had an RBI double. Cody Lawhorn (1-2) earned the win on the mound for Urbana. Mike Blanton came in to close the game and struck out three batters in two innings. MVNU left 11 left on base in game one.
Urbana struggled in game two, only putting up two runs on three hits. The Blue Knights’ two runs came on back-to-back bases loaded walks in the fourth to cut MVNU’s lead to 3-2. Heck, Bezak and Jeff Hartwig had Urbana’s three hits, with Heck getting the only extra-base hit with his third double of the day. The Cougars’ Richie Burgos, two-time AMC Player of the Week, surpassed Urbana’s production going 3-for-3 with two homeruns.
