Blue Knights Claim Victory in Season Opener
Goldschmidt earns first win at Urbana
MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2008) – The Blue Knight baseball team gave Mike Goldschmidt his first win as head coach at Urbana University on the first try. Urbana pulled off a 2-1 victory against Milligan College in the first game of a double header during its season opening weekend. The Buffaloes (5-7) came away with a 14-9 victory in the night cap.
Junior Jaeson Hudnall picked up the win, while junior Shane Pfouts was credited with the save. Senior John Lindquist, a transfer from Columbus State, was the hero at the plate, lining a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the game winning runs. The Blue Knights played exceptional baseball in the first game and did not commit a single error when it counted most in this defensive standoff.
Game two of the double header was a different story. When runs were scarce in the opener, both teams were having no trouble plating them in the second game, amassing 23. After combining for just nine hits in game one, the two teams combined for 34 in the twilight game. Urbana accounted for 19 of those hits. Senior Mike Heck led the way, going 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Junior Russ Chambers also got in on the action, belting a two-run dinger for the Blue Knights (1-1). Junior Mike Blanton suffered the loss on the mound for Urbana.
