Be a mentor!
Do you remember what
it was (or still is) like trying to make an important decisions perhaps
one affecting the remainder of your life and wishing
that there was someone to turn to that has already gone through it?
The Career
Services Department has developed the Urbana Career Ally Network
(UCAN) to do just that. Allies of
the University (that’s
you) are
interested in helping current Urbana students think about their developing
careers.
UCAN enables current students to network with you, to ask questions about
occupations, and help with their job searching.
You can help in several
ways:
- Conduct informational interviews sessions via letters, phone,
or e-mail.
- Arrange
job-shadowing visits ranging from a few hours to a few days
for a group of students or individual students.
- Participate
with other Allies in an on-campus discussion about their
career fields.
- Forward
information to Career Services about possible employment
opportunities and qualifications, including job postings.
- Recruit
or urge your organization to recruit from your alma mater.
- Provide
help to recent graduates in getting acquainted and established
in your community.
If you are
interested in becoming an Ally, go to the Career Services
page.
Click on “Blueprints
On-Line” and
complete a profile for alumni/mentors.
