BSN Completion Program for Registered Nurses

The BSN is offered at the Urbana Adult & Continuing Education site on the campus of the Springfield Regional School of Nursing in Springfield. Adult & Continuing Education, Urbana's adult education arm, facilitates degree completion through part-time study in an accelerated evening format.  General education and support courses are also available to the BSN Completion student at Adult & Continuing Education sites on Urbana's main campus and in Dayton, Bellefontaine, Piqua, and London. The mission of the BSN Completion Program for registered nurses is to prepare liberally educated graduates with a strong foundation in nursing science and practice who will serve the health care needs of the community as clinical nurse experts, leaders and managers.

The BSN Completion Program for registered nurses extends the partnership with the Springfield Regional School of Nursing in which graduates currently earn the Associate of Arts in Health Sciences from Urbana and the nursing diploma from SRSN. Grounded in adult education theory, the BSN Completion Program welcomes graduates of all diploma and associate degree nursing programs and:

  • Offers direct admission to upper division studies.

  • Engages the registered nurse student in career planning, knowledge enhancement and skill development.

  • Provides opportunities for satisfying community-based learning and service close to home.

  • Establishes the necessary foundation to later earn advanced degrees for careers as clinical nurse specialists, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, nurses executives and nursing faculty.

  • Learning begins immediately.  There are no challenge exams or prior knowledge validations.

  • Outreach programs are being planned in Bellefontaine and Piqua.

The BSN program began in August 2003. Urbana University awarded its first Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees during its May 14, 2005 Commencement Ceremony. Eighteen BSN students received their degree. Several of our May graduates have begun graduate studies within the year.
